JUNIOR HOCKEY AT MEMBERTOU

The Kameron Junior Miners have taken a 2-0 lead in their Sid Rowe Division championship series against the Antigonish Bulldogs.
The Junior Miners blanked the Bulldogs 5-0 on Wednesday night in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.
Jacob Keagan’s lone goal of the opening period proved to be the eventual game-winner for the Miners, who added three more in the second stanza. Keegan Marcott and Mitchell Johnston both found the back of the net before Josh Perry beat Bulldogs goalie Charles Jensen on a shorthanded penalty shot to close out the frame. Nolan Smith scored midway through the third to make it a 5-0 final.
Levi Denny turned aside all 33 shots he faced for the win, while Jensen stopped 26 pucks in the loss.
The Junior Miners hit the road for Game 3 on Friday in Antigonish, and with a win could close out the best-ofseven series Saturday in Membertou. If needed, Game 5 is set for Tuesday in Membertou, Game 6 is scheduled for March 23 in Antigonish, and the deciding game would be played March 25 in Membertou.
The winner of Sid Rowe Division final series will face the winner of the Fred Fox Division championship between the East Hants Penguins and the Cole Harbour Colts for the NSJHL championship. East Hants leads that series in 2-1 after losing to the Colts 9-4 on Wednesday.
The Junior Miners will host the 2018 Don Johnson Memorial Cup Atlantic junior ‘B’ hockey championship in Membertou from April 24-30.
