The home base for the 29th annual Vince Ryan Memorial Hockey Tournament will be the Canada Games Complex at Cape Breton University this year.

“With the closure of the Bayplex (for renovations), the public was wondering where we are going with everything this year,” said Richie Warren, founder and chair of the tournament. “For this year we will be moving it all to the Canada Games Complex.”

The tournament kicks off March 22 and runs through to March 25 and includes 105 teams in 27 divisions.

Warren said one of the event’s main fundraisers every year is various draws for prizes donated by merchants from throughout the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Ticket sales and the prize table were always at the Bayplex.

“We are moving it to the Canada Games Complex as the foyer is good and warm for our volunteers that help us every year,” Warren said, adding there are lots of great prizes.

“So far there are 60 items and climbing, there will be more to come,” he said. “I appreciate the support of businesses that have contributed to this worthwhile cause.”

The draws for the prizes will take place the last day of the tournament, Sunday, March 25

at the Canada Games Complex.

Warren has about 200 volunteers lined up for this event.

Tournament games are being held in Whitney Pier, North Sydney, Sydney Mines, two rinks in Membertou, the Country Recreation Centre in Coxheath, Dominion rink, Centre 200 in Sydney and the Canada Games Complex.
