The MacIntyre Chevy Panthers, who turned heads this season posting their best regular season record in franchise history, had their season come to an end on Friday.

The Panthers were blanked 4-0 by the Northern Subway Selects in Game 3 of the Nova Scotia Female Midget ‘AAA’ Hockey League championship series at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre, losing the best-of-five series 3-0.

Losing in the provincial final wasn’t the way the team wanted to end the year, but first-year head coach Troy Chiasson was happy with the progress the organization made over the year.

“When we reflect back in a few years I think we took strides in the right direction as far as the program, so I think generally everyone will be happy with our year,” said Chiasson

Although the team would have liked to win the title this year, success isn’t always measured by a championship.

“There’s no question you always want to win a championship any time you get into a league final, that’s’ the ultimate goal,” said Chiasson. “I think

our kids know right now what we’re up against and how good you have to be to win a league championship — it’s a good measuring stick for us as a program.”

Maddie Quinn, KJ Emery, Sophia Wornell, and Eva Wornell each scored goals for the Subway Selects, who repeat as league champions after winning the provincial title last season.

Lily Currie picked up the shutout in goal for the Subway Selects. Julia Carroll shouldered the loss for the Panthers.

The Panthers finished in second place with a 14-0-6-4-0 record this season, the team’s best record since the formation of the league in 2008-09.

The team advanced to the finals after knocking off Metro Boston Pizza in five games in the league semifinals.

The Subway Selects will now represent Nova Scotia at the Midget ‘AAA’ Female Atlantic Championship, March 29 to April 1, in Mount Pearl, N.L.

The winner of the Atlantic championship will advance to the Esso Cup, the national female midget championship, hosted by Metro Boston Pizza in Bridgewater.
