A Cape Breton singersongwriter who grew up with music in his blood will be inducted into this year’s Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame.

Multi-talented musician and solo artist Aaron C. Lewis of Sydney said Friday he was humbled by the news.

“I went to the website to look at some of the people in that hall of fame and you’ve got Anne Murray, Carroll Baker and Hank Snow. I have a hard time looking at myself as being of that calibre, so it’s very humbling,” said Lewis.

“I’m still a guy who feels very young, although I know I’ve done a lifetime full of things in my career. It’s very odd.”

At just 46, Lewis already has three decades of music under his belt.

In his early days, he played piano and sang vocals as he toured worldwide as part of The Carlton Showband, a Junoaward winning country group led by his father, the late Bobby

Lewis.

Among the country greats that Aaron Lewis has shared the stage with are Tommy Hunter, Prairie Oyster, Alabama, Joe Diffie and Charlie Pride.

He has also performed and toured with artists such as The Ennis Sisters, Matt Minglewood

and Michelle Wright.

“I’ve been surrounded by country music my whole life, so it’s just kind of a natural fit,” said Lewis, when asked about his solo career.

“The music industry has been very kind to me. I’ve been able to make a really good living at it. Music is so prominent here and it just made things so much easier.”

In the studio, Lewis has contributed his talents to more than 150 CD projects, as both a musician and a background singer. He has also produced more than 15 recording projects for other artists.

After decades performing with other artists and bands, Lewis released a 2012 solo album titled “Discovering Gold” from his own independent label.

A few years later in 2017, Lewis’s single, “Put a Little Love on It,” sold 10,000 copies nationwide in three months.

This year’s list of 2018 country hall of fame inductees includes Matt Balsor of Hansport, who is considered the Valley’s Country Music Prince, and Bill Guest of Dartmouth, a multi-talented instrumentalist known primarily as an accomplished fiddler and pianist.

The performers will be inducted at a dinner and ceremony in Truro on Sept. 15.
