Former Bay St. Lawrence garage for sale

Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education no longer uses building

A former piece of property that was once used for minor repairs to school buses may soon find a new life with a new owner.

The property in question is the former Bay St. Lawrence Garage at 3139 Bay St. Lawrence Rd., Dingwall. The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education no longer uses it, so it’s up for sale.

“It’s very small building. It was big enough for one school bus so it’s not a huge building by any stretch,” said Paul Oldford, director of operations for the centre for education

“What it was used for was for minor repairs and maintenance to vehicles. That would be more like you were replacing a light bulb and this kind of thing. Anything of any significance is done at our main facilities in Sydney and Baddeck.”

The former garage has not been in use for use for several years, he said, and has been replaced by a newer facility at Cabot Education Centre.

There’s land that comes with the building, estimated to be perhaps the size of a building lot, according to Oldford.

Though small, people have been asking about the property for some time.

“We do know there is some interest being expressed in it, particularly from people in the community. We are hopeful we will be able to sell it.”

The school board posted the tender for the garage sale on May 9 and it is set to close June 15.

Oldford advised those interested in purchasing it to contact the board’s procurement office to obtain the tender documents that must be used in such sale processes.

Tender packages may be picked up at the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education purchasing Department located at 999 Gabarus Hwy.,

Prime Brook. Phone 902-5626025 for details.

Sealed tenders marked “Sale of former Bay St. Lawrence Garage and Property” will be accepted by Kevin Moules, the purchasing agent, for the school board up to 2 p.m. on June 15.

All bidders must register with the purchasing department, by fax 902-539-9195, or in person at 999 Gabarus Hwy., Prime Brook, Nova Scotia. Only registered bidders will be notified of addenda.
