Highland Village opens for season

Highland Village opens for the season today and officials are expecting a busy year.

Events begin Sunday with a CD release concert featuring the Cape Breton trio Miller, MacDonald and Cormier. The concert begins at 2 p.m. and features Ben Miller and Anita MacDonald along with Zakk Cormier on the acoustic guitar.

Advanced tickets are $12. Tickets will also be available at the door for $15.

Meanwhile, on June 9, the village will celebrate Highland Fair Day and St. Columbia Day.

The special event will take place throughout the day and visitors will be able to see traditiona­l meals prepared gardens planted.

The village welcomes visitors from all over the world each year, including more than 7,000 cruise ship passengers who visited in 2017.

Last year was a record-breaking year for the village with more than 25,000 visitors.

The organizati­on hopes 2018 will be another banner year for the village, which recently achieved Trip Advisor’s prestigiou­s Certificat­e of Excellence Hall of Fame.

The Highland Village will be open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $11 for adults and $5 for children. Seniors and family rates are available.
