It is with heavy hearts that we the family, announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmothe­r, sister, aunt and friend, Sandra Leanna (MacAskill) MacDonald, 66 of Glace Bay on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 with her devoted loving family by her side.

Born June 1, 1951 in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late Gwendolyn (MacLellan) MacAskill.

Mom spent her younger years growing up on Neville Street in Dominion. In 1970 Leanna married her husband of 39 years, Joey “Moose” MacDonald and started a family, being a mother was a role she held with great pride. Mom enjoyed listening to music and loved to rock n roll especially with her sister, Deborah. Mom loved playing bingo and trying her luck at the casino, she was happy even when she was losing. She was an avid Blue Jays fan and liked to watch her favorite t.v. show, The Gilmore Girls. Mom loved everything about Christmas, it would take days for her to decorate and when she was done you couldn’t help but feel happy. For the last two years of Mom’s life her strength and will to live was an inspiratio­n to us all.

Leanna is survived by her two sons, whom she loved with all her heart, Darren (Corrie) and her darlin Ian (Debbie), her pride and joy, her grandchild­ren, Travis and Jenna who will dearly miss their “Nanny Donald”; siblings, Deborah (Ricky) MacKillop, Don MacAskill, Tammy (Johnny) MacDonald, Wendy (Joey) Saccary, Orson (Karen) MacLellan, Heather (Peter) Kennedy; sister-in-law, Dorothy MacAskill; niece, Richelle (Ryan) Mason who was the daughter mom never had; several nieces and nephews; uncle, Headley MacLellan and childhood, friend, Elaine Hanrahan. Besides her mother, Gwendolyn, she was predecease­d by her husband, Joey MacDonald.

We the family, would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Gordon Spencer for the beautiful care that was given to our mother, it meant the world to her. Thank you to the nurses on third west of the Glace Bay Hospital with special mention to Darlene MacGilliva­ry, Mom was so happy to see you coming, you are truly an angel on earth. To our family thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your love and support. Mom, Nanny Donald thank you for all the beautiful memories, your print is forever etched in our hearts, We Love You.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at St. Mary’s Church, Marconi St., Glace Bay with Rev. Myrna MacMullin officiatin­g. Interment to follow in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney.
