MACDONALD, Audrey Agnes

-

Audrey MacDonald of Marion Bridge, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the age of 98.

Born in Glace Bay on March 16, 1920, Audrey was the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Simpson) Hussey of Marion Bridge.

She was predeceased by her husband, Allister and daughter, Sara Jean Petrie.

Audrey appreciated every minute of every day, living life to the fullest. Her back door was always open and the cookie jar always full of her wonderful baking. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flower gardens and plants and the birds knew that a meal was always available at her bird feeder. An avid reader, she enjoyed novels and historical fiction and was current with worldly events.

Throughout the years, Audrey enjoyed painting and teaching painting. In recent years, her passion was rekindled and her work was entered into an art exhibit at CBU, earning her, at the age of 97, a feature story with CTV news. She would later joke, “it took me all these years to become famous!” Because of her painter’s eye, she saw more in nature than most of us, noting all the colors of green when she looked at a landscape.

For many years, Audrey operated the telephone switchboard from the dining room of her home in Marion Bridge. She was a member of the church and choir of Bethel United Church, Marion Bridge, as well as part of Mae Cameron’s ladies’ choir and a member of the Mira Seniors and Pensioners Club, Marion Bridge.

Audrey is survived by her sons, Wayne (Hilda) MacDonald and Gordon (Diane) MacDonald and son-in-law, Donnie Petrie. Audrey is also survived by seven grandchildren, Nancy (Troy) Skinner, James (Angela) MacDonald, Malcolm (Jennifer) MacDonald, Graham (Amanda) MacDonald, Andrew (Connie) MacDonald, Daniel Petrie and Brian Petrie. She is also survived by eight greatgrandchildren; her sister, Elva Eisenhauer and many nieces and nephews.

Audrey was also predeceased by her brothers, William, Roy, Harvey, Earl and Cecil and sisters, Eva, Hazel and Marion.

The family would like to thank all the home careworkers and staff at Taigh Na Mara for their wonderful care and attention. Also, many thanks to all the relatives and friends who stopped by her home for visits.

May God watch between me and thee until we meet again.
