BAILEY, Ernest “Minnow”

It is with sadness and broken hearts that we, the family of Minnow Bailey, announce his passing on June 17, 2018 at New Waterford Consolidat­ed Hospital , age of 87. He was a resident of Maple Hill Manor and Seaview Manor.

Born July 29, 1930 in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Hugh and Mary Bailey. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Minnow was a hard-working miner for 44 years with Devco and never turned down a shift. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, watching Blue Jays games and spending many summers at the bungalow in Big Pond. He was a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club and Lions Club. He was also a lifelong member of the New Waterford Fish and Game Society.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen (Gillis); daughter, Marilyn (Vern); sons, Tony (Pam), Blair (Karen), Lorne (Sherry); grandchild­ren, Lori, Allison, Casey, Holly, Taylor; great-grandchild­ren, Bailey, Jesse, Elliott, Lexi, Logan, Emily; sisters-in-law, Frances Bailey and Alexena Gillis.

Besides his parents, Minnow was also predecease­d by his brothers, Colin, Jack, John, Leonard; sisters Phyllis, Elizabeth and Clarabelle; son-in-law, Vern Hillier and his in-laws, Harriet and Charles Gillis.

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held Friday, June 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and a chapel service Saturday, June 23rd at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiatin­g. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the parish hall, Convent St., and all are welcome.
