Popular festival preparing for sixth annual event

Acoustic Roots Festival preparing for sixth annual event.

The Acoustic Roots Festival has announced its lineup for its sixth annual event, which will run Aug. 31-Sept. 2.

This year’s list includes many well-known local performers including Adam Young, Brenda Stubbert, Blanche Sopholeous, Buddy MacDonald, Chrissy Crawley, Colin Grant, Crowdis Bridge, Dara MacDonald, Dave Carroll, Donnie Campbell, Dwayne Cote, Harold MacIntyre, Jason MacDonald, Jason Price, Jim Inch, Jinks O’Neill, Joe Gillis, Kolten MacDonell,

John Curtis Sampson, MacArthur Dancers, MacNeil Sisters, Meaghan Blanchard, David Meuse, Naming The Twins, NC Elite Dancers, Robert Bouchard and Ryan Roberts.

The event will take place at the Two Rivers Wildlife Park, a 500-acre site offering a variety of activities and services for festival goers including onsite camping, walking trails, fish ponds, wagon rides, petting zoo, canteen, observator­y and WiFi.

The campground has several serviced sites as well as a new visitor’s centre with showers and laundry facilities. In addition, the park will also be hosting its annual horse show the same weekend.

The Acoustic Roots performanc­es begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31 with an 11 a.m. start on Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2.

In addition to the performanc­es, the festival will also feature musical workshops. There will be fiddle workshops with Colin Grant on the morning of Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. for beginners and 10-11 a.m. for intermedia­te/advanced. Sept. 2 will feature a songwriter­s workshop with Jason MacDonald and Ryan Roberts beginning at 9 a.m.
