Flea market vendors wanted

-

A local group is hoping to attract vendors to its weekly flea market.

Bobby Donovan, treasurer of the Glace Bay Y’s Men’s and Women’s Club, said they have had lots of buyers at the Saturday flea markets which began three weeks ago at the Morrison Campus Y’s Men’s Centre.

“We had lots of buyers coming in last Saturday but only had four tables,” he said.

“They sold lots though and made good money.” Donovan said there’s no reason why they can’t bring the success of the Sydney flea market to Glace Bay, it just takes more sellers.

The tables usually rent for $10 however this week table rentals will be $5 to give people an opportunity to check out the new market.

The flea market runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Saturday. The doors open at 9 a.m. for sellers.

As well for the next few weeks, to promote the new venture, there will be no admission charge.

“We want to give people an opportunity to come and check it out. We are hoping every week it will continue to grow.”

The Y’s Men are also accepting donated items which they will sell at the flea market. Donations can be dropped off at the centre.

The Glace Bay Y’s Men’s and Women’s Club purchased the former Morrison junior high school several months ago, repurposed it as the Morrison Campus Y’s Men’s Centre and hired Greg Barnes to manage the facility.

The club will begin to host bingo on Sept. 11. Donovan said the club needs to raise money to deal with oil costs during the winter months.

Anyone wishing to rent a table for the flea market can telephone, 902-276-3557 or Greg, 902-317-4734.
