WHALE WATCHING

If you have never gone whale watching, you definitely need to. Nova Scotia is home to a number of whales, including humpbacks, minkes, pilot and sei whales. In fact, late summer and fall are actually the best times to catch a glimpse of the endangered North Atlantic right whale. As an added bonus, adventure-goers can expect to see a host of other marine life including seals, dolphins and seabirds. The Bay of Fundy and Northern Cape Breton are prime viewing areas, and most tour operators are open until midOctober.

TIDAL BORE RAFTING

If you are looking for an adventure you won’t soon forget, then tidal bore rafting is a safe bet. Huge waves (some up to 10 feet) rush in front of the incoming tide twice a day.

As the rushing water meets an out-flowing river the result is the perfect rafting experience. While these unique waves occur twice a day and only last a short time, the memories are sure to last a lifetime. Some rafting companies, like Shubie River Wranglers, are open until the end of October, but make sure to check the tidal charts before booking your tour to ensure you get the most extreme adventure.
