Mary C. Fitzgerald, age 88, died September 14, 2018, at home in Baddeck, after a long struggle with Dementia. Born in Sugar Loaf, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Christena (MacAskill) Whiteley.

She spent most of her life in Cape North, where she devoted herself to home and family. Mom possessed great femininity, a quick wit, and deep moral character. Her enduring strength, hospitalit­y, and kind nature will not be forgotten.

She will be missed by her children, Jackie, Heather (Clifford), Kerry (Gay) and LaurieAnn. Also surviving are grandsons, John, Robert, and Bradley Ferguson, Ryan Fitzgerald, and step grandson, Joey Scott.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Jack, and brothers, Norman-Joseph, Angus and Norman Whiteley (in childhood).

Thank you to Dr. Elena Garcia Del Busto for her care and compassion. Thanks also to the Home Care/Palliative Care Staff for their support. Sincere gratitude to neighbors Val Tingley (Cape North), the late Daniel MacAulay, (Baddeck), aunts Florence and Elfreda Fitzgerald, and special family member, Rychie Budge, for years of kindness to Mom and our family.

No visitation or funeral by request. Burial to be in Aspy Bay United Church Cemetery on Tuesday, September 18 at 1 p.m., officiated by Rev. Carolyn Sharp. Donations may be made to Asby Bay United Church.
