Sister Margaret Beaton establishes Cape Bretoniana, now the Beaton Institute

Classrooms expand to Navy League buildings, Holy Angels High School and new arts building

Xavier Junior College renamed Xavier College
1964
Rev. Dr. Donald Campbell becomes president
1967
Black Friday — future of Xavier Junior College unknown

Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology (NSEIT) opens
1974
Xavier Junior College merges with NSEIT to form College of Cape Breton

Construction of campus centre building, Sullivan Field House, Beaton Institute, art gallery, Boardmore Theatre

University College of Cape Breton (UCCB) is formed

Dr. Bill Reid installed as president

Jeux Canada Games awarded to Cape Breton. Canada Games Complex and Max Bell Centre constructed

UCCB commits to actively cooperating with First Nations communities in Unama’ki to create educational opportunities under the guidance of Sister Dorothy Moore and Father Greg MacLeod

Partners for Progress campaign, led by Mr. Joe Shannon, sees the creation of the Student, Culture and Heritage Building
