Hospital staff deserve high praise
Lately, all we hear is the negative about the Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH) so I decided to share my experience.
On Aug. 23, I was grocery shopping with my two-year-old grandson. He decided to stand up in the shopping cart and fell backwards, hitting the back of his head on the hard floor. Immediately, I knew things were not right and I rushed him to the CBRH emergency department.
As soon as we arrived we were greeted by professionals who quickly registered him and within minutes we were seen by nurses and doctors.
A cat scan revealed he had a fractured skull and a brain bleed. An air ambulance was called to transfer him to the IWK.
Needless to say this was a horrifying experience for our family. The nurses and doctors were by our side the whole time.
Our grandson was continuously monitored and we were all treated with care and compassion. Before our grandson was airlifted, the head nurse presented us with an envelope.
In a daze, I shoved it into my purse. On the way to Halifax I gazed inside. We were amazed to find two gift cards to help with our travel expenses. What caring and compassionate people.
These professionals are often put down by frustrated people in the waiting room, but the next time you are there waiting your turn please try to remember they are working hard to see you. However, patients need to be seen on an emergency priority.
We cannot thank the wonderful staff working in the emergency department of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital enough.
Every one of them went up and beyond their call of duty on Aug. 23 to save our grandson.
We will forever be grateful to you all
