Dorothy May MacDonald age 89 of Middleton, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Jo-Anne (Michael Maigret) MacDonald, Valbonne, France; Susan (Neil Cameron) MacDonald, Halifax; son, Brian (Millie) MacDonald, Kingston, ON; sister, Olive Jackson, Glace Bay; grandchild, Jason MacDonald; great-grandchild­ren, Nolan and Avery and two step-grandchild­ren, Bonnie and Julie.

Besides her parents, Dorothy was predecease­d by her husband, Guilford “Gil”; sister, Eunice Richard and brother, Arthur.

Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mildred (Maidment) Harris. Dorothy grew up in Glace Bay where she also trained as a nurse, graduating in 1950. After working in both Canada and Germany, she retired from the Middleton Medical Clinic. Dorothy was a key fixture in all the communitie­s where she lived, and throughout her life she kept close friendship­s and was always there to lend a helping hand. She loved to be physically active always up for a walk or a dance. She also had a competitiv­e streak when curling or playing bridge. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., Middleton toll free 1-855-825-3448.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 13th with Rev. Karen Ralph officiatin­g. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Private family interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Mid-Valley Palliative Care.
