Pouria Reza­pour is a first-year Dal­housie Fam­ily Medicine res­i­dent com­plet­ing his train­ing in Cape Bre­ton. He earned his med­i­cal de­gree through the Univer­sity of Bri­tish Columbia and is cur­rently work­ing at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal in Sydney and will be there un­til July 2020. Why did you choose to study medicine: I wanted to do some­thing that chal­lenged me to solve prob­lems and in­te­grate sci­ence and ethics in ser­vice to hu­man­ity. What about your pro­fes­sion has sur­prised you: I have found it strange that on the one hand we have armies of peo­ple in health care tire­lessly work­ing to im­prove com­mu­nity health, yet we see health prob­lems grow­ing. It has made me won­der: how can each of us take some re­spon­si­bil­ity for en­sur­ing that the next gen­er­a­tion de­vel­ops healthy habits in the var­i­ous di­men­sions of their lives?
