Man fac­ing charges af­ter al­legedly wield­ing knife, threat­en­ing hospi­tal staff

HAL­I­FAX — Brief bed­lam erupted at a hospi­tal emer­gency room Thurs­day night in Hal­i­fax, when a man al­legedly threat­ened staff with a knife and hurled ob­jects.

Po­lice say they were called to the QEII hospi­tal’s Hal­i­fax In­fir­mary site at about 7 p.m. for a re­port of a man armed with a knife.

Const. John Ma­cLeod says the man yelled threats at hospi­tal staff and threw items in­side the wait­ing room af­ter be­ing asked to leave for caus­ing a dis­tur­bance.

He says of­fi­cers found a sus­pect nearby on Trol­lope and Rain­nie streets and ar­rested him with­out in­ci­dent. Po­lice say a 56-year-old Hal­i­fax man is fac­ing sev­eral charges.

Khaled Sa­mara is charged with as­sault with a weapon, pos­ses­sion of a weapon, ut­ter­ing threats and caus­ing a dis­tur­bance.
