If you notice a large gathering in the parking lot of Sweet Side of the Moon Bakery and Café on Sunday, don’t worry — it’s just the filming of Glace Bay hip hop artist Mitchell Bailey’s latest video.
In fact, the personable 21-year-old wouldn’t mind at all if you dropped by during the event at 78 McKeen St.
“I’m encouraging supporters to come out on Sunday at 1 p.m.,” said Bailey who has even set up a Facebook page so you can tell him if you plan on attending.
The event will see the shooting of the official music video for Bailey’s single “Oprah Winfrey.” It’s the single off Bailey’s latest EP, “Season Two,” which, according to the local performer has been doing well on music platforms iTunes and Spotify.
“It went amazingly well — it did better than “Season One,” said Bailey. “I charted fourth on the Canadian Hip Hop charts for the country on iTunes.”
Bailey admits he spent much of the early days of the EP’s release glued to his phone, watching how his music charted. There were plenty of surprises including a period when his CD passed rap superstar Eminem on the Canadian charts.
“It was kind of stressful but it went well,” he said, now looking back at the EP’s November release.
“Season Two” follows “Season One” which was released in September, both part of an ongoing series that will end
when Bailey decides to stop it. You can expect the next installment, “Season Three” sometime in February or March.
Bailey plans on moving to Montreal in January where he will do the writing and recording of the next EP.
Bailey decided to release “Season Two” so quickly after “Season One” to keep his career momentum going and so far, it seems to have worked.
“All the songs on ‘Season Two’ were created since September,” said Bailey. “It’s a perfect representation of where I am at right now.”
In addition to his music, Bailey is involved in www. youngsuperstars.ca which offers a clothing line, a public relations service and other products for young musicians to further their careers.
