Eskasoni man accused of arson released on conditions

SYDNEY — An Eskasoni man was released from custody Tuesday on a host of conditions after being charged with offences that include arson. Cory Alexander Young, 32, is also charged with uttering a threat and break, enter and theft. The offences are alleged to have occurred Jan. 2 in Eskasoni.

He is also charged with three counts of assault and single counts of assault with a weapon (a knife), unlawful confinemen­t, uttering threat and mischief. Those offences allegedly occurred between January 2017 and January 2019.

Among the conditions of his release, Young is to live at a Sydney address on Bentinck Street, he is not to possess any weapons, must refrain from alcohol, report once a week to police by phone, and remain in the residence at all times with exceptions for medical emergencie­s, legal and counsellin­g appointmen­ts, and a four-hour period every Thursday during which he can conduct personal business.

He is to return to court Jan. 29 to enter pleas.
