HALIFAX — A man has been released from police custody after allegedly barricading himself in a Halifax-area apartment while armed with a knife Friday night. Halifax Regional Police say the man was released Saturday morning with no criminal charges. They say officers responded to a call on Highfield Park Drive in Dartmouth shortly after 5:30 p.m., where a 30-year-old man allegedly armed with a knife was “causing damage” inside his apartment.

Police say the man allegedly refused to open the door when officers arrived and told police he was armed with a knife.

They say a number of officers were on scene, including negotiators and the emergency response team, and took the man into custody shortly after 10 p.m.

Police say the investigation is now closed.
