Eagles homestand closes today

Cape Breton hosts Halifax Mooseheads at Centre 200

SYDNEY — The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will wrap up their five-game homestand when they host the Halifax Mooseheads at Centre 200 today.

Game time is 7 p.m. at the Sydney venue. The Screaming Eagles (31-15-1-4) sit fourth in the Eastern Conference with 67 points. The team played the Moncton Wildcats on Friday night at Centre 200, however the final result was not available at press time.

As for the Mooseheads (37-11-2-1), the team sits first in the Eastern Conference with 77 points and are 8-2-0-0 in their last 10 games and have won their past four contests.

The Screaming Eagles are led offensivel­y by Sydney native Mitchell Balmas who has 33 goals and 28 assists for 61 points, followed closely by St. Louis Blues prospect Mathias Laferrière with 22 goals and 33 assists for 55 points, and Russian Egor Sokolov with 24 goals and 21 assists for 45 points.

For Halifax, the offence is powered by overager Samuel Asselin with 40 goals and 30 assists for 70 points, followed by Anaheim Ducks prospect Antoine Morand with 17 goals and 38 assists for 55 points and Raphaël Lavoie with 24 goals and 30 assists for 54 points.

With the Scotties Tournament of Hearts taking centre stage at Centre 200, Feb. 1524, the Screaming Eagles will hit the road for a six-game Quebec road trip, which will begin Friday in Blainville-Boisbriand. The team will also make stops in Drummondvi­lle, Sherbrooke, Gatineau, RouynNoran­da and Val-d’Or, before returning home to play the Saint John Sea Dogs on Feb. 28 at Centre 200.
