O’CALLAGHAN, Genevieve ‘Jenny’ Agnes Sydney

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r, sister, and aunt, Genevieve (Jenny) O’Callaghan on February 5, 2019 at the Halifax Infirmary.

She was born on February 4, 1932, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, to the late Joseph and Mary (Basse) Dawson and grew up in Whitney Pier.

Jenny is survived by her children, Brenda (Kenny) Peters, Eleanor (Glen) Neal, Roy (Susan MacKinnon) O’Callaghan, Terrance (Pam MacDougall) O’Callaghan and grandchild­ren, Kent (Deanna Pembroke) Peters and Brad Peters, Jeni Neal (Tristan White), Alicia O’Callaghan, Liam and Shannon O’Callaghan; and great-grandchild­ren, Karlie and Tori Peters. She is also survived by her sister, Dora (Al) Clarke, Ontario.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Roy O’Callaghan; sisters, Rose, Big Dora, Alice, Mary (Mimie) and bothers, Peter, Charles (Curly), Raymond, Arthur, Nick, John and Bernie.

Mom was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family dearly, her “Angels”. She had many friends which included her very special long-time friend, Lee MacDougall (deceased). Mom loved to play darts at the Sergeant’s Mess, Club 55, and in her younger years loved to skate. But her favourite thing was dancing with our Dad and they were admired by many when they took to the dance floor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her but is now dancing in Heaven with our Dad.

Visitation will be held from

4 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 11, 2019 at 11a.m. St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 40 Cabot St., Sydney, Fr. Bill Burke officiatin­g with reception to follow. Interment to be held at Resurrecti­on Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and a special thank you to Keith Warren at the Halifax Infirmary for their kindness during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a local charity of choice.
