It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Garfield Robert White, age 78 of Glace Bay who passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the CBRH, Sydney after a brief illness.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Robert and Gertrude (Coffin) White.

Garfield was employed for over 35 years with Sobeys Grocery Store in Sydney. He enjoyed going to Mike’s Lunch every day, playing the machines, having his cup of tea and talking to his many friends at the counter. Garfield had a dry sense of humour and was very witty. In his younger days he really enjoyed fishing.

Garfield is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anastasia “Statia” (Aucoin) White; his daughter, Kathleen (Mike) Young, Glace Bay; two sisters, Marie (George) Parent, Rose (Herb) Fitzner; three brothers, Wilfred (Blanche), George (Joanne) and Martin (Cathie). Also surviving are his three grandchild­ren whom he loved dearly, Tara (Ravi) Ruparelia, Logan, Tyler; one great grandchild on the way and his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Garfield was predecease­d by his brother, Ronald and three sisters, Shirley, Alice and Gladys.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, Chapel and Reception Centre, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.

Donations in memory of Garfield can be made to the Salvation Army.
