O’CALLAGHAN, Sheila Marie

-

With great sadness, the family of Sheila Marie O’Callaghan, announce her passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on May 21, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born January 21, 1934, in Sydney. She was the daughter of Jack Carroll and Agnes (Ferneyhough). Sheila is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Emmett, and their 3 children. Emmett (D’anne), Shauna (Terry) and Brian (Paula); her 5 grandchildren, TJ (Melanie), Brendan (Janell), Sarah (Brennan), Hannah and Brian; 2 great-grandchildren Liam and Sofia and several nieces and nephews. Sheila was predeceased by her parents, her brothers John Carroll and Ron Lloyd; her sister Ivey Aldouse; and her close friend and sister-in-law Lorraine Carroll.

Sheila was a member of the Branch 12 Legion and in her earlier years curled, bowled and enjoyed her “club” night playing cards with her friends. Sheila was an avid curling and Eagles fan and liked nothing more than to curl up on her corner of the love seat to watch curling or listen to the Eagle games on the radio.

Sheila spent her summers on the Mira River with her family; she always made sure everyone was well fed and warm even if that meant making 6 different meals and telling Emmett to turn on the stove in the August heat to get “the damp out”. Nanny had a huge heart and would do anything for her children and grand-kids. She also loved her dogs and always had treats for any dog or stray cat that came along.

Visitation will take place Monday, May 27th at Sydney Memorial Chapel from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 28th 11 a.m., at St Theresa’s Church, with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating.
