We regret to announce the passing of Joanne Marie Simon, age 68, on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 20, 1951 in Sydney, Joanne was the daughter of Margaret and the late Gordon Morrison. Besides her father, Joanne was predecease­d by her infant daughter, Jillian. Joanne is survived by her mom, Margaret Morrison (Celtic Court nursing home); brother, Don (Dawn), Dartmouth; loving husband, George of 44 years; children, Jordan (Lisa), Sydney, Janelle (Cederic), Inverness, and son, Jonathan, at home. She was most proud of her beautiful granddaugh­ters, Shelby (Greg) and Haylee (Travis), both of Sydney. Joanne was a beautiful soul. She brought joy and happiness to everyone she knew. She will be sorely missed. Joanne was a teacher for many years. She was actively involved in the church, ladies auxiliary, and Monday night dart league. George was her best friend and soul mate. Her children were her world. She was very kind and generous. She had the most beautiful smile and touched everyone around her. Visitation for the late Joanne Marie Simon will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019, from 2-8 p.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street). A celebratio­n of Joanne’s life will be on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at the Bethel Presbyteri­an Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Lyle officiatin­g. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Joanne can be made to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12 Ladies Auxiliary. The family would like to extend a thank you to the nurses and surgeons and doctors involved in Joanne’s care. The nurses were amazing in the ICU. We will be forever grateful.
