BAKER, Lynn Victoria Mines
On the 7th of October 1946, Carole ‘Lynn’ Baker came into the world in Dingwall, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Her next five years were spent on St. Paul’s Island with her family, where her father was the lighthouse keeper, followed by a move to New Victoria where her family continued to tend to the lighthouse there. Life progressed as it did for most in those times, until Lynn entered grade two and met Raymond Baker, the true love of her life. After years of travel with her pipe band and at the beginning of her 25-year career with Bell Aliant, Lynn married Raymond in 1969. Totally devoted to one another, they were blessed with three children whom they treasured dearly; Laura (Russ), Amy and Joey. They were also blessed with three loving grandchildren, Kyle, Kyra and Nova. Lynn had a passion for the outdoors, with one of her favorite pass times being working in her many beautiful gardens. She also loved to travel and her and Raymond spent much time exploring the Maritimes sightseeing, hiking, and walking every beach they encountered along the way. Lynn was a kind and wise soul, devoting her life to helping not only her family but also her friends with sage advice, humor and love. With Raymond having been called home on April 12, 2019, Lynn was doing her best to make a new life after 55 years of loving companionship, but God had other plans. Following a brief battle with cancer in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on August 12, 2019 Lynn left this world to join her true love surrounded by her children and friends, who are far too many to name here, but it is important to note Mary Coffin and Linda Davis were certainly among the closest of all. Special thanks are also richly due to her healthcare team, including Dr. Mark Sampson, Dr. Saneea Abboud, RN Jennifer Rolland and Darlene Ruelland and RT Janell MacQueen. Lynn is survived by her brother, Dennis Fitzgerald. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Thelma O’Neill, and her adoring husband, Raymond Baker, whom she married twice, just for good measure. To celebrate a life well lived, we welcome you to join us for a gathering of friends and family with music and memories that will take place at the Baker family home, 74 Whites Lane, Victoria Mines on Saturday, August 17, 2019, beginning at 3 p.m. and continuing into the evening. Being kind and loving was what Lynn Baker was all about. She truly believed there is good in everyone, if only we are willing to open our eyes and see.
