Cape Breton Eagles property dealt at MHL trade deadline

SYDNEY — The Maritime Junior Hockey League trade deadline saw a number of Cape Breton Eagles property traded last week.

On Jan. 6, the Yarmouth Mariners traded the rights to defenceman Jacob Christie, a ninth-round Cape Breton pick last June, and a first-round draft pick in 2021 to the Truro Bearcats for Carson Lanceleve.

On Jan. 7, the Edmundston Blizzard dealt forward Aaron Brown, an Eagles 11th-round pick in 2017, Marc-Andre Couture, a conditiona­l thirdround pick in 2020, and future considerat­ions to the Fredericto­n Red Wings for Evan White.

Last Thursday, the Bearcats traded the rights to Matthew Gordon, who was recently called up by the Eagles, and future considerat­ions to the Miramichi Timberwolv­es for Long Point, Inverness County, product James Walker.

In a separate deal Thursday, the Bearcats sent rights to Logan Camp, who will finish the season with the Eagles, Evan MacKinnon, as well as first and second round picks in 2021 and future considerat­ions to the Timberwolv­es for Jason Imbeault and future considerat­ions.

The final trade involving Eagles property came on Friday when Edmondston traded goaltender Ewan MacDonald, who has been called up by the Eagles numerous times this season, to the Pictou County Crushers for a fourth-round pick in 2021 and future considerat­ions.

Former Cape Breton Eagle Ryan MacLellan, currently of the Moncton Wildcats, had his

MHL rights traded along with a first-round pick in 2021 from the South Shore Lumberjack­s to the Miramichi for the rights to Bradley Shaw.
