SAUNDERS, Laura Lynn

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Lynn Saunders on January 15, 2020, beloved wife, of Victor ‘John’ Logie Saunders; and loving mother, of John Charles Saunders and Carolyn Elizabeth. Laura was born on August 28, 1954, in Ottawa, to the late Sunny and Don Nazzer. She later moved with her family to Cape Breton where they eventually settled in Sydney. She married her soulmate John Saunders there on August 21, 1976. John and Laura moved to Newfoundland but soon came back to settle on the Mira River where they raised a family. Laura also had many passions outside her family and was involved in the local community. She was a talented artist, completing many drawings, watercolours, and textile works. She loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Laura was a cook extraordinaire and made the best pastry ever. She was an avid birdwatcher, recognized the song of every bird that came near, and turned her expertise into a job completing many bird surveys in Cape Breton. She advocated for the environment and loved animals. She cared for many pet cats and dogs, raised chickens and sheep, and volunteered with Two Rivers Provincial Park. Laura will be thoroughly missed by John, J.C., Carolyn, her two older brothers, Eric and Craig Nazzer; her younger sister, Carol Walsh (Nazzer); and all her extended family and huge circle of friends. A reception to celebrate Laura’s Life will be held Tues Jan 21, 2020 between 5-8p.m. in the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design, 322 Charlotte St., Sydney, NS. The family wish to extend thanks to the Doctors, staff and volunteers at the CB Regional Hospital’s Palliative Care Units and Cancer Units for their care and compassion. Donations in Laura’s memory can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or the Cancer Unit at the CB Regional Hospital. Online condolences, or memories can be shared with Laura’s family by visiting www.twcurry.com.
