It is with extreme sadness, the family wishes to announce the passing of F. David ‘Dave’ MacDonald on Thursday May 7, 2020 after a sudden illness, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Frederick ‘Freddy’ and Louise (Jones) MacDonald. Born and raised in Baddeck, David was a Certified Red Seal Electricia­n, certified for Industrial/Commercial and Residentia­l and was certified to work Inter Provincial­ly. In his early years, Dave worked along sided his father (who was also an Electricia­n) in the family business. A proud member of IBEW Local 1852, David spent many years working on major constructi­on projects on and off Cape Breton Island. He spent a number of years working for Syncrude in Alberta. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Walker’s Electrical Constructi­on & Maintenanc­e in Creignish. Known to many, including his union brothers, as ‘Baddeck Dave’ he enjoyed being a part of the Baddeck community and he loved working on many projects in his community and was always there to lend a hand to those in need. A lover of dogs, he spent many years of enjoyment with his Apricot Poodles. A gifted musician, David loved to entertain his friends and family with his cherished guitars and extensive music collection. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of many years, Shauna MacLean, who loved, cherished and adored him beyond words. He will also be missed by their ‘poodle fur baby’, Brandy Alexander. David is survived by his sister, Emily ‘Emmy Lou’ MacDonald, Halifax; his niece, Julie (San), Edmonton and their son Sanjay; his nephew, Robbie Morrison, Halifax. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Rob and Heather Maclean, Sydney River, along with nephews, Nathan and James, Sydney River; niece, Sydney, Moncton. He was predecease­d by his loving Aunt Billie, and his Uncle Gordon MacDonald. Cremation under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel has taken place. A public service will take place at Knox Presbyteri­an Church in Baddeck once the COVID 19 restrictio­ns are lifted. A private burial to take place Saint Andrews Cemetery in Baddeck following the service. The family gratefully acknowledg­es the care provided to David by Dr. Carlyle Chow and most recently Dr. Jamie Tribo.
