STAPLETON, Joseph Shayne

-

March 31, 1958 - July 11, 2020

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of a kind and true gentleman. Shayne Stapleton had a heart of gold, and if you had the pleasure of meeting him you were a better person because of it. With his beloved wife Louisa and their sons Joseph, 22, and Justin, 20, at his side Shayne passed away at home after fighting a courageous battle with cancer on the morning of July 11th. Shayne was born in Bras d’or, Cape Breton, to Eddie & Mary Stapleton and at a young age of 16 he made his way to Thorold, Ontario where he worked on the Lake Boats. He later settled in Vancouver, BC, where he worked for Sea Span on the Tugboats for over 45 years. Never missing a shift and leaving everything shipshape. Shayne met the love of his life Louisa and married in 1996. They moved to Maple Ridge and had two boys. That is when the real fun began. Shayne and Louisa traveled with small kids to the Philippines and they explored the West Coast of the US and Canada. Shayne and his boys drove several trips across Canada, spending summers in Cape Breton. Visiting with family and friends at Groves Point or Florence Beach with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins galore. Shanye generously picked up the tab at The Blue Mist for all to enjoy wing night. Thanks Dude! Shanye always enjoyed a cup of tea and catching up on the news with friends. Never a dull moment, the Big Time Dude of bon fires where laughter filled the sky. An ordinary man who loved life and everyone in it. Shayne is survived by brothers, Bryan (Annmarie), Eddie, and Bill (Janice); sisters, Charmaine (Mike Greenlaw), Maura (Brian Brady), Verna (Colin Harrison), Lucy (Leo Brown), Corrie, Judy (Stephen Dolhanty), Paula, (Glenn Edmunds) Suzanne, Starr (Patrick Wilkie); sisters-inlaw, Rosa Baod and Tomasa Bahni also extended family in the Philippines. Shayne was predeceased by his parents; brother, Mark and darling niece, Shaina. There will be a family funeral service on July 22nd in Maple Ridge, BC. As per Shayne’s wishes ashes will be spread at Sea Span and Cape Breton Island.
