BROWN, John ‘Roy’ New Waterford

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy Brown on July 29, 2020 at the New Waterford Consolidat­ed Hospital. Born in New Waterford on May 11, 1943, he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ (Cumming) Brown. Roy worked at American Motors in Ontario before moving back to Cape Breton to work at the Steel Plant and in the Devco Mines. Roy could always be found either in his garage tinkering around old cars, or at Tim Hortons with “The Boys“, which he truly enjoyed. Roy leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Sherry; sons, Darren, David (Crystal); loving grandchild­ren, Shannon, who he adored and with whom he shared a special bond, Trevor, Nicola; brothers, Bob (Doreen), Frank (Muriel). Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his brothers; Hilary, John, in infancy; sister, Kathy. The family would like to thank Dr. Bridget Lowry for the excellent care and friendship she provided to Roy over the years, as well as Dr. Maccormick, Palliative Care, and the nurses at the New Waterford Hospital for their exceptiona­l care. Special thanks to Allie Macdonald and family, Ron and Lois Macdonald, Melvin Aucoin (Jackie), Greg White (Pauline) for their phone calls and visits. Cremation has taken place. A private family chapel service will be held at a later date. Donations in Roy’s memory can be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
