Elizabeth “Betty” Louise Talbott passed away peacefully Friday, October 2, 2020, at Harboursto­ne Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born in Sydney on April 24, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Marion (MacGillivr­ay) Ernst. Betty was a lifelong member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a very generous and creative person. Learning to sew at an early age, there was nothing Betty could not mend or create with her sewing machine. She often used her skill to help people in need. She was an avid painter - a hobby she shared with husband, Albert, along with bird watching and crosswords. Betty was fiercely devoted to her son, Eric and worked tirelessly to advocate for persons living with Autism. She was instrument­al in forming the local Autism Society, and paved the way for many to enjoy more productive and independen­t lives. Betty is survived by her son, Eric, Sydney; stepson, Wayne, Ont.; sisters, Muriel Williamson, Manitoba, Hazel (Cecil) Hillier, Dartmouth and Judy (Ken) Crane, BC; sister-in-law, Jane Ernst, Balls Creek; and numerous nieces, nephews and close loving friends. She was predecease­d by her husband, Albert Talbott; brothers, Gilbert and Eric; sister-in-law, Edna Talbott; and brother in-law, Fred Talbott. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, October 8 at 1 p.m., immediatel­y followed by memorial service at 2 p.m. Limited seating and COVID restrictio­ns apply.
