Additional charges filed relating to child pornography
SYDNEY — A Sydney man recently arrest on a warrant in Halifax in now facing additional charges relating to child pornography.
Andrew Alfred Giasson, 31, of Howie Centre was arrested in Halifax in September after Cape Breton Regional Police secured an arrest warrant.
He was initially charged with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and distributing child pornography.
He was later released on conditions that included he not possess any weapons, he report, in person, once a week to regional police, he is not to possess any cellphone or pager that can provide access to the Internet; he is not to possess any device capable of recording or taking photos, he is not to volunteer with any group that would put him in a position of trust, he is also to stay away from areas where children under 16 are likely to gather (parks, playgrounds, daycares).
Police have now filed additional charges against Giasson.
He is charged with three counts of transmitting sexually explicit material to an individual under the age of 18 for the purpose of sex. Three counts of using telecommunications to communicate with a person under the age of 18 for the purpose of sex. Three counts distributing child pornography and single counts of possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between February and June in Howie Centre.
Giasson is now expected to enter pleas to the charges Nov. 23.
