The Rev. Art Nash of Glace Bay and Louisbourg passed away on 12 January 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He transition­ed peacefully into his Heavenly reward because of the blessed hope of eternal life through the resurrecti­on of Jesus Christ. Art was a priest in the Diocese of Nova Scotia. He graduated from the Church Army in 1961 and served there for 9 happy years where he served at the Mission to Seamen Hamilton, Ontario for two years and did services at the Don Jail Toronto for a year. He then went to the Parish of Greenwood, BC for three years before moving to the Parish of Melita, Manitoba for another three years. In 1968 he attended the College of Emmanuel-St. Chad graduating in 1970. He was ordained a Deacon by Bishop Wilkerson in May of 1970 and was Priested in 1971 on the Feast of the Annunciati­on. He was posted to the Parish of Glenboro, Manitoba. In 1972 he returned to his home Diocese of NS/PEI and served in the Parish of Lockeport for three years and then to the Parish of Trinity Church, Sydney Mines for 13 years. He then moved to the Parish of Fall River where he served another 13 years. At Fall River he was instrument­al in the building of St. Thomas Church. He officially retired in 2000 but was then posted to the Parish of Hammonds Plains serving there for four years. After seeing to the building of the Parish Hall and later the Church of St. Nicholas under the direction of the Rev. Jane Reid he retired for the second time. He then was appointed Priest in Charge in Mt. Uniacke for a year and finally was Priest in Charge for the Parish of Liverpool/Eagle Head. He then retired for the third time. Rev. Art also filled the position of Padre to the Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command Royal Canadian Legion. He was a proud member of Calois Branch 162, Lower Sackville. He is survived by his lovely Irish bride Emily, whom he was married to for 54.5 years; a son, Deane (Amy), daughters, Gail (Dan) and Barbara; two granddaugh­ters, Andria and Emma and a grandson Isaac. He was predecease­d by his parents, Herb and Effie Nash, and his adopted parents, Reuben and Gertie Kendall. He is also predecease­d by 15 brothers and sisters: Allie, Jackie, Philip, George, Clayton, Leslie, Jimmy and Wallace and sisters Ida, Margaret, Lillian, May, Delores, and Jean as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is survived by brothers, Charles and Reuben; sisters, Eileen and Barbara. Art’s hobbies included camping, photograph­y, calligraph­y, kayaking, baseball, hockey and reading. He was a great fan of the Montreal Canadiens, New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. A memorial service is being planned via Zoom on Saturday, Jan 16, 2 p.m. by St. Nicholas, Art’s most recent church home. The link can be found at StNicholas­Anglican.ca.
