Taking a pass on indoor competition
SYDNEY — Soccer Cape Breton says the organization won’t enter teams to compete in the Nova Scotia Soccer League indoor season this winter.
The organization announced the news via social media on Wednesday.
Soccer Cape Breton will also not offer winter programs for its mini (under-4 to under-9) and youth (under-11 to under-18) this year.
According to the organization, the lack of commitment for an appropriate place to run programs was one of the reasons for the decisions because the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex Dome at Cape Breton University is out of operation for the time being.
The unpredictable nature of youth sports closures and restrictions for groups, the uncertainty of leagues and competitions being approved as well as travel to Halifax for players and families were among other reasons provided.
“At this point, we want to ensure our soccer community is safe and well and we are able to deliver and facilitate programs effectively,” said Soccer Cape Breton on social media.
“We are focusing on spring and summer programs at this point and will continue to work with Soccer Nova Scotia to ensure we are ready for next season.”
The organization says updates will be provided periodically and they will continue to be available to answer questions and support its clubs, players and families during this time.
Soccer Cape Breton represents 11 clubs across the island including associations in Albert Bridge, Central Inverness, Glace Bay, New Waterford, North Inverness, Northside, Riverview, Strait Area, Whitney Pier and Victoria County.
The organization hasn’t released any details for its spring and summer programs at this time.
