HAPPY TO SEE TRUMP ERA COME TO A CLOSE

-

As the Trump Era thankfully comes to a close one way or another, I take note of the horrible things that have happened in the United States.

As a young man growing up in the 1960s and 70s, I often thought of the United States as the land to live. It seemed so welcoming to all who wished to live and grow in prosperity. The Trump Era and the election of 2020 has debunked this belief I once had.

I love Canada, but I always felt that maybe we were not as great as our American cousins. The real truth, however, is that we were so much better. We have problems for sure but they pale in comparison to the U.S.

I never question our elected MLAs and MPs opinions, nor the opposition as well. They are good people, they love our country and they just want to do a good job for us all, no matter what party they belonged to.

The media, in asking good questions that are of concern to us, is critical to democracy. As a regular reader to this newspaper, I enjoy the opinion page and whether I agree with the columnists or not the writers know their stuff.

But back to recent event in the U.S. where I was very surprised to see the Canada flag at the horrible protest display at the Capital building in Washington, D.C. I really did not believe that we have Canadians who could possibly believe and follow Trump.

It will be tough in the next few years but the U.S. now has a good person in president-elect Joe Biden. He is sure to be far better than what they had the last four years.
