CARROLL, Sr. Helen Elizabeth Sr. St. Dolores Maureen

It is with deep regret that we the sisters of the Congregati­on of Notre Dame announce the passing of Sr. Helen Carroll, on January 19, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Sr. Carroll had a smile which manifested a genuine warmth and she had a deep respect for the dignity of each person and an ability to affirm others. Sr. Helen was born on March 9, 1933 in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Mary (Campbell) Carroll. Sr. Helen entered the Congregati­on of Notre Dame in 1953, and was professed in 1955. She began her teaching career in Quebec, including schools in Montreal, Granby and Sherbrook. She then taught in Pictou, NS and Summerside, PE. Following her teaching career she was involved in various ministries as a CND, including parish work in Inverness and Fort Nelson, BC. Sr. Helen participat­ed in spiritual developmen­t of adults in Miscouche and St. Eleanor PE. She later continued in ministries in New Victoria and Mabou and again in Charlottet­own. In 2011 she moved to Parkland, Sydney where she resided until her health declined and then was welcomed at the CND Health Center in Sydney, December 2020. Sr. Helen is survived by her brother, Russell and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her sister, Dolores (Gordon) MacLean; brother Wendell (Bev), and sister-in-law Shirley. Sr. Helen was a deeply spiritual woman who had an unwavering devotion to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, with Fr. Bill Burke presiding. Interment to follow in Resurrecti­on Cemetery.
