MCNEIL, William ‘Peck’ Charles Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Charles McNeil, age 74, of Glace Bay on February 26, 2021 at the Cape Breton Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Willie “Peck” was born in Reserve Mines to the parents of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Gaigneur) McNeil. Willie was a proud miner for 37 years until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of the Mine Rescue Team and was very proud to Captain the team that won the Internatio­nal Mine Rescue Competitio­n in 1979. Willie was also a member of the Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs. To Willie, family and friends was most important and before his illness he loved spending time at his bungalow in Framboise with his family and hunting buddies. Willie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara (MacDonald); daughter Cheryl; sons, Neil, Gary ‘Gnu’ (Stephanie) and Gerald (Lisa); brothers, John, Peter, and Alex (Ann); sisters, Mary Campbell and Anne Pasher; grandchild­ren, Jamie Leigh, Emma, Garrett, Cameron and Colin. Willie is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as a special nephew Ed Weatherbee whom he considered a son and Christine McDonald, who became part of our family. Besides his parents, Willie was predecease­d by his brothers, Joe, Anthony and Archie; sisters, Mariah, Lucy and Madeline, as well as two siblings in infancy; several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
