Death Notices/Obituaries EVANS, Patricia Ann North Sydney

-

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia ‘Patsy’ Ann Evans - beloved sister, aunt, friend, and teacher – on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the age of 69. Patsy was born in North Sydney to the late Llewellyn and Lena (MacAulay) Evans. Patsy was a dedicated schoolteacher spending most of her teaching career at Thompson Junior High School, North Sydney. She will be fondly remembered by her teacher colleagues and her former students. Patsy was always a very active person, enjoying such outdoor hobbies as downhill and cross-country skiing and even parasailing. She loved to travel, and continued to do so regularly, right up until the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. She held a special place in her heart for her cottage in Margaree where she found inspiration throughout her life, especially after her accident. It was while returning home from Margaree that Patsy was involved in a tragic, single vehicle accident, that left her paralyzed and wheelchair bound for the last 18 years of her life. While the accident would forever change her life, it would never serve as an impediment to a rich and fulfilling one, filled with wonderful friends and family, laughter and love. Patsy is survived by her sisters, Vivian (Colin) Ross – Margaree, Beth (Denise) Evans – Yarmouth; brothers, Brent (June) Evans – Bras d’Or, Harvey (Kathy) Evans – North Sydney, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, aunts and uncles. Besides her parents, Patsy was predeceased by her two brothers, David and Philip Evans. She was also predeceased by her faithful companion, her treasured dog, Abby. The family would like to extend special thanks to Patsy’s many caregivers over the years, most recently Joan Evans and Marie MacLeod, for all of the special care they provided. Many thanks are also extended to all the people who sat with Patsy to keep her in constant company over the past few weeks while in the Northside General and Cape Breton Regional Hospitals, and of course to the entire medical team of both facilities for their attentive care. Special thanks to her “decorating team”, a group of her fellow teachers that always made sure her home was in the festive spirit for each and every Christmas for the past 18 years. Special thanks are also extended to Valerie Baxendale and Judy Miller for their warm friendship. Visitation for Patsy will be held 2-4 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A private family funeral service will follow in the funeral home. The service will be livestreamed to the general public through the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Memorial donations may be given to the Five Eleven Youth and Family Center, Brook Street, North Sydney, to the North Sydney Food Bank or to a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.

Patsy would often say – “I have a good life.” She truly did.
