Cape Breton Blizzard female hockey program announces award winners for 2020-21

SYDNEY — This time last year, the thought of a minor hockey season for 2020-21 looked rather impossible with the COVID-19 pandemic and rising cases of the virus in Atlantic Canada.

As the summer months approached and the case numbers began to dwindle, minor hockey associations across Cape Breton were able to plan for the season, despite not having an exact start date.

Once associations were given approval to return to the ice, the Cape Breton Blizzard female hockey association charged ahead with its season and began play shortly after restrictions eased for sports.

Despite stops and starts as well as parents not being allowed in the rink for a period of time during the season, the Blizzard program, like many others, pushed through and were able to complete the season.

The Blizzard recently announced the annual award winners for the 2020-21 season.
