BRIAND, John “Junior”

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John “Junior” Briand, of Sydney, NS, on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the age of 69. Born November 27, 1951, in Neil’s Harbour, he was the son of the late John “Jack” and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Briand. Junior’s career included time with the Halifax Police Department and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. He’ll be remembered by many from the fishing community through his business, Briand Marine Surveys. A loving friend, father and grandfathe­r, he is survived by Anita Webb, Shaun (Lisa), Kendra Lomheim (Mike), Corinne MacKeil (Dustan), Lisa Webb (Cory) and Mike Webb (Joelle) and grandchild­ren, Peyton, Myla, Ty, Jalen, Jessa, Jade, Oliver, Levi, Benson, Brielle, Spencer and Lola, who always affectiona­tely referred to him as “Big Grampy”. He will also be remembered by several siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins. Junior was predecease­d by his parents, Jack and Margaret and baby brother, Hugh Kennedy. A true sports fan, Junior had a special love for the game of hockey, being a life-long Blackhawks fan. In his earlier days, he could be found at the rinks of Pictou County watching his children play, on the ice reffing or on the bench as a coach. He had a big personalit­y, always had a story to tell and enjoyed taking the time to chat with friends and share lots of laughs. Due to Covid-19 restrictio­ns, there will be no visitation or service at this time.
