SYDNEY — The Adrian Morrison Memorial Golf Tournament has a new date for 2021.

The ninth annual tournament was originally scheduled to take place Friday, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers have moved the event to Oct. 1 at the Seaview Golf and Country Club in North Sydney.

The cost for a team of four to play is $430 which includes a round of golf, two carts, barbecue and prizes. The cost for sponsoring a hole is $100 and this includes the company name at the tee box.

In May 2012, Morrison lost his battle with cancer. Hockey is in the blood of the Morrison family with Adrian's older brother Kevin playing professionally. It was only natural that he follow that same path early in life as well.

Adrian played high school hockey from 1973-76 at Sydney Academy and then suited up for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Canada Hockey League.

Following a semi-professional stint with the San Francisco Shamrocks and Utica Mohawks, Morrison moved back to Cape Breton to pursue a career in radio advertising with MBS and Newcap

Radio (101.9 The Giant) for many years. He continued his passion with hockey, playing with the Crazy 8's which included his best friends Barclay Haddad and Sheldon Hanna.

All proceeds from the golf tournament will go towards a scholarship/bursary in Adrian's name for a student athlete at Sydney Academy. More than $60,000 has been handed out since the beginning of this event.

The tournament committee is seeking donated items for a silent auction. Team prizes or any individual prizes for closest to the hole or longest drive would also be appreciated.
