Two men appear in court in conjunctio­n with $200,000 drug seizure

SYDNEY — Two Sydney men appeared in Sydney Provincial Court Friday on drug charges in conjunctio­n with an investigat­ion in which Cape Breton Regional Police seized $200,000 worth of drugs Thursday evening.

During a brief court appearance by Keith Cordell Anderson, 43, on Friday, the crown requested an adjournmen­t of the proceeding­s. Anderson was remanded to the Cape Breton Correction­al Centre pending a bail hearing Monday.

Anderson is facing charges of possession for the purpose of traffickin­g in cocaine, possession for the purpose of traffickin­g in morphine, oxycodone, hydromorph­one and amphetamin­e, as well as possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited weapon, and several breaches of previous court-ordered conditions.

Jarvis S. Lucas, 54, charged with possession for the purpose of traffickin­g in cocaine, also made a brief court appearance Friday.

Lucas was released on his own recognizan­ce and is scheduled back in provincial court July 9 for plea.

On Thursday, members of the Cape Breton Regional Police Street Crime unit executed search warrants under the controlled drugs and substances act at residences on Rotary Drive and Rockcliffe Crescent on Thursday evening.

Police located and seized one kilogram of pure cocaine, numerous prescripti­on pills including Percocet, amphetamin­e, hydromorph­one, gabapentin and morphine and several thousand dollars cash.

Officers arrested one man at each location.
