LAMOND, Donald ‘Cameron’

-

Donald ‘Cameron’ Lamond, passed away in his 97th year at home with family by him. His sharp wit and wicked sense of humour will be missed by all who knew

him. Born in the "Shipyard" Sydney, and raised in Sydney and Mira, Cape Breton, Cameron was pre-deceased earlier this year by his adored wife Marilyn Anne (MacDonald) Lamond. Cameron was the last of his generation, predeceased by his sisters, Effie, Mora, Edna and Catherine; his older brother, John, and his parents, Sarah and Dan. Surviving his loss are children, Donald (Susie), Susan, Bruce (Elaine), Ian (Hilary) and Mary Jane (Glen); brotherin-law and sister-in-law, Errol and Norma MacDonald. Missed by grandchildren, Robin (Jen), Cassie (John), Emily (Richard), Jake

(Amanda), Bronwyn (Colten), William (Jess) and Ainsley; great-grandchildren, Nora, Anya, Korben, Esmé, Theo, Arwen, and his many nieces and nephews. Immediately upon graduating from Sydney Academy in 1943 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war he attended Acadia University and Nova Scotia Tech to obtain his degree in chemical engineering. It was while he was at “Tech” that he met Marilyn at a church social. According to “Dad” he saw her across the room and knew she was the “one” and one year later a 68 year marriage began. After university he worked for CIL before returning to Cape Breton as the General Manager of Deuterium Canada's heavy water plant in Glace Bay. In the early 1970s he joined Brockville Chemicals in Ontario first as the plant manager and then as Director of Special Projects at Head Office in Montreal. Thus, in 1976 Cameron and Marilyn moved to Westmount, Quebec, where they lived for the last forty-five years of their lives. Cameron had a keen problem solving

mind and enjoyed meeting many challenges during his long career. After retirement he shared his knowledge and experience with Chemical Engineering students as an

Adjunct Professor at McGill University. Past-President of St. James Literary Society and The Royal Montreal Curling Club, where for many years he enjoyed the camraderie of "The Brotherhood''. After their marriage Cameron and Marilyn joined the United Church of Canada. Being members of the church provided a constant, as a couple and as a family. For many years Cameron and Marilyn have valued the fellowship and friendship that they found in the congregation at Mountainside United Church. Marilyn and Cameron travelled extensively, making many trips abroad. After his

retirement Cameron and Marilyn spent summers at the family cottage in Cape Breton, where they enjoyed visits from family and

friends and attended church at Union Presbyterian overlooking his beloved Mira River. When family and friends can gather we plan to hold a memorial service in

Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Many thanks to Sheri Blackmore, R.N. and the whole care team at C.L.S.C. Métro, Montreal. Cremation has

taken place in the care of Collins, Clarke, MacGillivray, White, Sherbrooke St. Montreal. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to Prospect Belvedere Services Corporation, 4505 Ste. Catherine St. West, Westmount, QC, H3Z 1R9 would be appreciated or to the charity of your choice.
