We regret to announce the passing of our mother, sister, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r. Florence Emmeline Hayes passed away Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney in the Palliative Care Unit. Born February 26, 1938, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Kent and Mary (Legge) Sheppard. Florence was retired from the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Braemore Home, where she worked in dietary. She was a member of St. Theresa’s parish, the CWL and the Cape Breton Support Club. She loved camping, dancing and family vacations. If you could not find Florence, there had to be a baby in the area because she had a lifelong love of children. Florence is survived by her daughter, Shirley Hayes (Tommy Cromwell), Sydney; sons, Steven (Susan) Hayes,

South Bar and Gussie (Debbie) Hayes, Sydney; grandchild­ren, Crystal-Dawn Hayes, Kyle Baker (Mallory),

Cody Cromwell, Chelsea Cromwell, Steve Hayes (Kaycee) and Anthony Hayes; great-grandchild­ren, Ashton, Aidan, Austin, Abigail, Jax, Elliot, Ivy, Grayson; extended grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren; sisters, Eleanor Mullins, Sydney and Shirley (Horst) Ammonn, London, ON; and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her granddaugh­ter, Crystal-Dawn who was her voice and support in the final few months and was there to hold her hand during her final breath. Also, a special thanks to palliative care and the VON. Besides

her parents, Florence was predecease­d by her husband, Thomas; brother, Ken (Winnie) Sheppard; brother-inlaw, Bill Mullins; grandson, David Hayes; and greatgrand­son, Travis Hayes. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Theresa’s Church at a later date. Interment will take place in Resurrecti­on Cemetery.
