How to boil water to ensure decontamination:

• Hold it at a rolling boil for at least one minute — this will inactivate all waterborne pathogenic microorganisms.

• Boil in a pot or kettle on a stove, in an electric kettle without an automatic shutoff or in a microwave oven

• Under most circumstances it's not necessary to boil water used for other household purposes
