Driver dead after car hits container near ferry terminal

NORTH SYDNEY — One person is dead after a car struck a steel container Sunday morning near MV Osprey Ltd., next to the Marine Atlantic terminal.

Officers from Cape Breton Regional Police Service North Division responded to the accident at 7:13 a.m. near 371 Purves St. Upon arrival, police noticed a 2012 Toyota Corolla had left the road and hit the container.

After EHS arrived, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic safety unit and ident section members were called out to assist with the investigat­ion.

No other details are being released until family members have been notified.
