Forestry council announces board

-

TRURO — The nonprofit organization working to develop a skilled and professional workforce for the Nova Scotia forest industry has appointed its first board of directors.

In a news release last week, the Forestry Sector Council announced the members of its board of directors following its annual general meeting.

The organization touted the board as the most diverse in the industry, with women holding five of nine board seats.

Board officers include chair Andrew Fedora, first vice-chair Cassie Turple, second vice-chair Amanda Mombourquette and executive committee member Jocelyn Taylor Archibald.

Other board members include Elizabeth Jessome, Heidi MacInnis, David Meister, Adam Scott and Marcus Zwicker.

The forestry council can trace its roots back to the Nova Scotia Forest Industry Regional Industrial Training Committee, formed in 1989, eventually evolving into the Nova Scotia Forestry Human Resources Sector Council and then the Forestry Sector Council.

Council executive director Heather Boyd thanked board members for stepping into their roles this year.

“The most important ingredient to success for Nova Scotia’s forestry sector is its people," said Boyd. "The FSC is committed to building a workforce that is like our forests — sustainable, diverse and growing."
