EDMOND, Bernard Alexander ‘Bernie’

Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we regret to announce the peaceful passing of Bernie Edmond, age 90 on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the CBRH, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Celestin and Adeline Edmond. Dad was employed as a coal miner for 35 years and was well liked and respected by his peers. He was a member of the original Men of the Deeps. Bernie sang with the choir at Immaculate Conception Church for many years, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dad attended mass every morning and would then go to play a few friendly games of pool at the Pensioner’s Hall with his buddies, Peter, Blackie and Ray. Dad is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Wanda (Campbell) Edmond; his children, Celeste (Ernel), Paul (Gwen), Kevin (Dorothy), Cathy, Ronnie (Pam), Carol (Glen), Bernadette (Gary) and Annette (Uzi). Bernie is also survived by 19 grandchild­ren; 15 great-grandchild­ren; brothers, Wilfred (Annie) and Danny (Kay). Besides his parents, Bernie was predecease­d by his brothers, Johnny, Basil, Jim, Joe, Anthony; his sisters, Bertie, Frances, Theresa, Mary, Amelia, Delores, and a son-in-law, Charlie Campbell. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the VJ McGillivra­y Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Wednesday, June 30 at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
